Turn the game of hopscotch into skip counting practice. Work with your child to create a hopscotch grid and then decide if you’ll skip count by 2s, 3s, 5s, or 10s. Ask your child to fill in the numbers using your selected skip counting sequence and then play a few rounds of skip count hopscotch.
⭐ Skip Counting with Cards
Grab a deck of cards and remove all of the jacks, queens, and kings. Divide the cards evenly between players. Call out a suit of cards, such as hearts, and a number to skip count by, such as 2s. Children will lay down cards with hearts in numerical order, skip counting by 2s. For example, the first card played would be a 2 of hearts, followed by a 4 of hearts, and so on.
⭐ Skip Counting Shout Out
Have children sit with partners or in a circle as a group. Pick a number to skip count by, like 5s, and have the children take turns skip counting by 5s to see how high they can count. Add to the excitement by setting a timer to see how quickly they can reach 100.
