Adult supervision is recommended. Adults should cut the bananas for younger children and consider each child’s dietary needs and possible choking hazards when selecting toppings.
What You’ll Need for the Banana Ghost Craft
- Bananas
- Mini chocolate chips for the eyes
- Regular chocolate chips for the mouths
- Cutting board
- Child-safe knife or butter knife
- Serving plate

Instructions for Making Banana Ghosts
Step 1: Peel and Cut the Bananas

1
Peel each banana and cut it in half crosswise. Place each banana half upright on its flat, cut end. If you’d like smaller ghosts, cut the banana into thirds, using the ends as ghosts and eating the middle piece!
If a banana does not stand securely, carefully trim the bottom to create a flatter base.
Step 2: Add the Ghost Faces

2
Gently press two mini chocolate chips into each banana to create the eyes. Add one regular chocolate chip underneath the eyes to create a mouth.
Press the pointed ends of the chocolate chips into the banana so the flat, round sides face outward.
Step 3: Arrange and Serve

3
Arrange the finished banana ghosts upright on a serving plate. Serve them right away for a simple Halloween snack or party treat.
Questions to Ask Your Child During the Activity:
- How many banana ghosts did we make?
- How many chocolate chips does each ghost have?
- What else can we add to our banana for decoration?
These questions encourage counting, creative thinking, descriptive language, and conversation while children make their snack.
