Before Piaget, children were often viewed as smaller versions of adults. In other words, it was commonly assumed that children thought much like adults but simply had less knowledge and experience. Piaget challenged this view by proposing that the way children think changes as they grow and interact with the world around them.
Rather than being passive recipients of information, Piaget proposed that children actively construct knowledge through their experiences (1952, 1964). As they develop, children’s thinking increases in complexity, allowing them to understand and interact with the world in new ways.

Equilibration
