Color in Motion is more than just a craft–it’s a hands-on learning experience that combines the magic of science with the joy of art. It’s perfect for a rainy day, a science project, or just a fun way to spend time together. Don’t forget to take pictures of your beautiful, swirling color creations!

What You’ll Need for the Color in Motion Project:

  • A shallow plate (Preferably white to see the colors vividly)
  • Food coloring (A variety of colors for more fun)

Pour enough milk onto the plate to just cover the bottom. This will be your canvas for the color show!

Step 3: Prepare the Dish Soap

Putting a bit of dish soap on a cue tip in preparation for a fun DIY craft.

Dip a cotton swab into the dish soap. You only need a small amount, so make sure it’s not dripping!

Step 4: Magical Color Show

Now for the exciting part! Gently touch the soapy cotton swab to the surface of the milk and hold it there. Watch as the colors dance, swirl, and burst into life! It’s like fireworks in a plate.

Swirling color together to create a stunning visual science experiment brought to you by ABCmouse.

This is a great moment to introduce some basic science concepts. Explain to your child that the dish soap reduces the surface tension of the milk and reacts with the fat in it, causing the food coloring to scatter and create beautiful, moving patterns. It’s a fantastic visual representation of a chemical reaction.

This Color in Motion project aims to be a memorable, hands-on learning experience that combines the magic of science with the joy of art. Have fun learning while you create!
